Crews Investigating Possible Underground Fuel Leak

Possible Underground Fuel Leak
Posted on 03/07/2022
The City of Shawnee, along with Shawnee Fire Department, Johnson County Department of Health and Environment, Johnson County Wastewater, Johnson County Emergency Management and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment are investigating reports of a possible underground fuel leak detected in the area of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Pflumm.

At this time, there appears to be no risk of danger to residents or businesses. However, those in the neighborhood may notice the fuel smell (not natural gas), particularly from a p-trap (typically located in a basement).

Crews are working to address the leak and remove the source of odors. With rain in the forecast, the odor may become more noticeable. If you detect a fuel odor, please call 911.

As of Tuesday, July 5, crews are out testing underground tanks at one gas station. Testing needs to be done at a second gas station to narrow down the source of the leak.
